Hi [first name]
Thanks for the opportunity to be able to quote on the movement of your vehicle.
You have two different options when shipping your vehicle. The first and most popular option is roll on, roll off... This is where the vehicle is driven aboard the vessel and lashed to the deck for its journey. This option is much cheaper, although you cannot put any personal belongings in with the vehicle.
The second option is to load and lash the vehicle inside its own 20ft container – when choosing this option you can fill the vehicle with any personal effects or parts you wish to ship across as well...
For info on each type of shipping, please check out our guide here.

This is where the vehicle is driven aboard the vessel and lashed to the deck for its journey. This option is much cheaper, although you cannot put any personal belongings in with the vehicle.
The second option we can offer is a shared 40ft container, this option gives you the ability to load personal items, tools etc within the vehicle / tray and costs are much less than using a 20ft container by yourself.
Thirdly, we can load and lash the vehicle inside its own 20ft container – when choosing this option you can fill the vehicle and the surrounds of the container with any personal effects or parts you wish to ship across as well. Here is a link outlining the space inside a 20ft container for your reference - please check out our guide here.
I will quote you on all options below.

Thanks for the opportunity to be able to quote on the movement of your motorcycle.
In the same way as the majority cars are transported around the world, motorcycles can also be shipped on a select number of RoRo vessels that run between Australia and New Zealand.
Motorcycles shipped in this manner are simply ridden on to the vessel and lashed to the deck in an area on the vessel designated specifically for motorcycles. All motorcycles shipped via RoRo are lashed to the floor in one of the many fully enclosed decks to ensure the bike remains protected from the elements during shipment.
If you would like to see what the inside of a RoRo vessel looks like, please have a look at the following article - Roll on Roll off Shipping.
If you are happy with the quote and want to proceed, your first step will be to select a suitable sailing. The current Australia to New Zealand Sailing Schedule can be viewed by clicking on the following link – Roll on Roll off Shipping Schedule .
PLEASE NOTE: Motorcycle can ONLY be accepted on Trans Future vessels.
Thanks for the opportunity to be able to quote on the movement of your Camper Trailer / Caravan.
Camper Trailers / Caravans are shipped across to NZ via purpose built Roll on, Roll off (RoRo) vessels. The unit is towed aboard the vessel into one of the many decks and is lashed to the ground to ensure it remains secure for its journey. If you would like to learn more about this method shipping or see what the inside of one of these vessels looks like then please - click here.
You are welcome to leave any goods inside the Caravan / Camper Trailer that would be considered part of the unit during everyday use. So your cutlery, bedding and general everyday items are all OK to be left in there. You will however need to remove any food items and any gas bottles from the Camper Trailer / Caravan prior to shipping. You also can not add additional personal effects such as suitcases of clothes or books etc
Of course it will also need to be as clean as possible to give it its best shot as passing its initial quarantine inspection on the port.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Information on each of these steps below.
For more information about why transit insurance is important, please see this article.
- Be a first time immigrant or a returning New Zealand citizen.
- If a returning citizen, you must have been out of New Zealand for over 21 months.
- Be prepared to sign a deed where you agree not to sell the vehicle for at least 2 years.
- You must have personally owned and used the vehicle for at least 12 months before the date of your departure to NZ, or the date on which the vehicle is surrendered for shipping – whichever is earlier.
- You MUST be physically in New Zealand in order to claim exemption.
If you do not meet the above criteria then please contact us and we can provide you with more info on the local taxes.
There are many different compliance depots in Auckland, your best bet is to simply google ‘Vehicle Compliance ’ and find one nearby to your final destination so it’s easy for you to collect the vehicle upon completion.
Cost is generally around NZD 420.00 + GST for a standard Australian vehicle as long as no work is needed, this would be payable directly to your chosen compliance depot.
The compliance depot will then issue you with a ‘certificate of compliance’ and a ‘warrant of fitness’ and from there your final step is to head to a NZTA branch where you be able to register the vehicle, obtain your number plates and then you can head back to the compliance depot, they can assist in attaching the plates for you and then you drive away all done and dusted.
Registration costs vary depending on the age and model of the vehicle, but general range between NZD 135.00 and NZD 190.00.
You will also need to double check with the compliance depot that your vehicle will meet NZ emissions standards, further information on this on the following link –
Class and Standards
Note: You should do this BEFORE you ship your vehicle, in the rare case that you don’t meet emissions exemptions criteria, or your vehicle does NOT meet emissions exemptions criteria, or your vehicle does NOT meet emissions standards, you will not be able to register the vehicle in NZ so best to always check first.
It’s always important to know exactly what you’re up for financially for an international vehicle movement. Here is a quick checklist covering each step, adding these up with give you your absolute total for the move.
- Freight costs
- Transit Insurance (optional)
- Import Taxes and Duties
- Compliance
- Registration
- NZ Vehicle insurance – you will need to arrange yourself prior to driving the vehicle .
***Quotation based on the information provided, if anything differs from the original information provided then the pricing may change. If shipping via roll on, roll off the vehicle will need to be fully operational (it runs and drives properly, the hand brake works correctly etc), if the vehicle is not drivable, then lashing it inside a 20ft container or shared 40ft container is our only option***
I hope this has been helpful, feel free to give us a call if you have any further questions.

- 1) That you have lived outside the EC for at least 12 months
- 2) That you have possessed and used the vehicle outside the EC for at least 6 months
- 3) That you are moving to the EC to live for at least 6 months in the following 12 months

If the vehicle is more than 10 years old, no compliance work is necessary, the vehicle simply needs to pass an MOT test and then you can register and drive the vehicle.
If the vehicle is less than 10 years old, then it will need to undergo full compliance, this generally totals around GBP 1260.00 including 12 months UK registration, This price includes transport costs ex Southampton port to our recommended compliance depot in Milton Keynes although excludes any repair or modification charges necessary to pass the IVA compliance test.
Most vehicles from Australia are compliant, other than we usually have to:
1) Fit a replacement speedometer face indicating MPH (Miles per Hour) - Pricing varies between around 75.00 and 325.00 GBP.
2) Fit a rear fog-light to the UK off-side, approximately 155.00 GBP if required.
3) Remove any window tint on the driver and front passenger windows and the windscreen, around 85.00 GBP if required.
4) Remove and replace any bull-bars or tow-bar, Pricing depend on the labour time.
It's always difficult to provide exact pricing on compliance as every make and model varies but the above price will provide a good guideline, if you would like firm pricing based on your vehicle specifics please just contact us and we can quote you accordingly
If Milton Keynes is a bit far out of the way you are welcome to use any other compliance facility in the UK, you are under no obligation to use our compliance service. Simply let us know who you want to use and we will work with them directly to move your vehicle there once its cleared through UK customs.
We work with an excellent team in the UK for both customs clearance and compliance, we would be happy to put you in touch with them directly if you have any questions regarding the clearance process for either option.

We have a great set up between Australia and NZ and many people are eligible for GST exemption, meaning you pay NO taxes on import. In general if you meet below criteria you will be successful in exemption.
– Be a first time immigrant or a returning New Zealand citizen.
– If a returning citizen, you must have been out of New Zealand for over 21 months.
– Be prepared to sign a deed where you agree not to sell the vehicle for at least 2 years.
– Vehicle must have been owned and used for last 12 months.
– You MUST be physically in New Zealand in order to claim exemption.
…and you must provide the following documents:
– Proof of ownership over the last 12 months
– Purchase receipt for the vehicle or a current NZ valuation from a local dealer

If you meet the GST exemption criteria above, then it makes so much sense to ship your motorcycle from Australia to New Zealand. It’s fast, you’ll save money, and you’ll be working with a team of experienced professionals.
